                                A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 1-1                                   AN ACT
 1-2     relating to the composition of districts of the Texas House of
 1-3     Representatives.
 1-4           BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 1-5           SECTION 1. The districts from which the members of the Texas
 1-6     House of Representatives are elected are the districts as provided
 1-7     by law and used for the election of members of the Texas House of
 1-8     Representatives of the 77th Texas Legislature, except as certain of
 1-9     those districts are changed by SECTION 2 of this Act.
1-10           SECTION 2. The portion of House District 96, located in
1-11     Tarrant County, is transferred to House District 104, in Dallas
1-12     County.
1-13           SECTION 3. The districts established by this Act apply to the
1-14     election of the members of the Texas House of Representatives
1-15     beginning with the primary and general elections in 2002 for
1-16     members of the 78th Legislature.  This Act does not affect the
1-17     membership of the Texas House of Representatives of the 77th
1-18     Legislature.
1-19           SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
1-20     a vote of two-thirds, or greater, of all members elected to each
1-21     house, as provided by Article III, Section 39, of the Texas
1-22     Constitution.  If this Act does not receive the minimum vote
1-23     necessary for immediate effect, then this Act shall instead take
 2-1     effect on September 1, 2001.
