         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on  
         Subcommittee on Technology & Business Growth was held on  
         Thursday, February 11, 1999 in the Senate Chamber at Austin,  
         Texas.

         MEMBERS PRESENT:                        MEMBERS ABSENT: 
         Senator Troy Fraser                     Senator Mike Jackson 
         Senator Frank Madla                     Senator John Whitmire 
         Senator John Carona 
          
                                      ***** 
          
         The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:35 am.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted.   
          
         The following members arrived after the roll was called:   
         Senator Mike Jackson 
          
         The Chair introduced the committee staff:  Tara Cowen,  
         committee clerk and Rebecca Robinson, assistant clerk. 
          
         First order of business was to adopt the Subcommittee's Rules. 
          
         Senator Carona inquired about the last line in Section 6(Bill  
         Analysis), which reads, "Such information shall be in written  
         form and shall not exceed two hundred and fifty words." 
          
         After a brief discussion, Senator Madla offered an amendment  
         to Section 6, "by placing a period after form and striking the  
         remainder of the sentence." 
          
         Senator Carona made a motion that the rules be amended and  
         Senator Jackson seconded the motion. 
          
         Senator Madla moved that the rules be adopted and Senator  
         Carona seconded the motion.  The rules were adopted. 
  
         The Chair opened for discussion the Subcommittees' meeting  
         time and day.  There were no objections to the Subcommittee  
         meeting at 8:30am on Thursdays in E1.028. 
         There being no further business, at 8:45 am Senator Fraser  
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of  
         the Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
