         Pursuant to a notice posted on March 2, 2000, the House  
         Committee on Public Safety met in a public hearing and was  
         called to order by the chair, Representative Turner, Bob, at  
         12:34 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Turner, Bob; Keel; Berman; Carter;  
                   Driver; Gutierrez; King, Phil; Najera (8). 
          
         Absent:   Representative Hupp (1). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         Chairman Turner laid out interim charge number three, which  
         evaluates the need for county or municipality law enforcement  
         officers to conduct motor carrier safety inspections.
