         Pursuant to a notice posted on February 15, 2000, the House  
         Committee on Public Health met in a public hearing and was  
         called to order by the chair, Representative Gray, at 10:00 a.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Gray; Coleman; Glaze; Maxey;  
                   McClendon; Uresti (6). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Capelo; Delisi; Hilderbran (3). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         The chair made opening remarks and announced that the purpose of  
         the meting was to address the role and potential of disease  
         management in Texas' public health programs that serve  
         chronically ill populations, as charged by Speaker Laney. 
          
         The chair thanked Reps. McClendon and Uresti for their  
         leadership on this charge, and announced that Rep. McClendon  
         would chair the remainder of the meeting.

         committee an overview of disease management.
