         Pursuant to a notice posted on July 26, 2000, the House  
         Committee on General Investigating met in a public hearing and  
         was called to order by the chair, Representative Gallego, at  
         10:35 a.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Gallego; Keel; Uher (3). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Crabb; Eiland (2). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         The following individuals were recognized by Chairman Gallego to  
         testify: 
          
         Martha McCabe, State Auditor's Office 
         (Representatives Crabb; Eiland now present.) 
         Roger Ferris, State Auditor's Office 
         Paul Ballard, Texas Education Agency. 
          
         The following individual filed a witness affirmation form, but  
         was not called to testify: 
          
         Carol Ann Smith, State Auditor's Office. 
          
         On motion of Representative Crabb and second by Representative  
         Eiland, the committee directed that a letter be sent to the  
         State Board of Education recommending it reconsider a  
         requirement that Permanent School Fund service providers refrain  
         from certain activities and to report violations of this  
         limitation.  The letter should also state that the State Board  
         of Education adopt regulations addressing this matter.  The  
         motion was adopted without objection. 
          
         At 11:35 a.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
