The House Committee on Financial Institutions 76th Legislature May 4, 2000 10:00 a.m. Capitol Extension, E1.030 Pursuant to a notice posted on April 14, 2000, the House Committee on Financial Institutions met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative Averitt, at 10:15 a.m. This meeting was a joint hearing conducted with the House Committee on Insurance. The roll was answered as follows: Present: Representatives Averitt; Denny; Ehrhardt; Pitts; Solis, Juan (5). Absent: Representatives Solomons; Elkins; Grusendorf; Marchant (4). A quorum was present. (Representative Solomons now present.) (Representative Grusendorf now present.) Testimony was taken on two of the Committee's interim charges (See attached witness list). The charges addressed are as follows: Review the federal "financial services modernization" act to identify necessary changes to state laws and regulations governing insurance and financial institutions. Determine the extent to which personal customer and account information may be accessed or furnished to governmental institutions, other divisions or affiliates of a financial institution, and unrelated commercial or other enterprise. Assess the state's ability to assure customers the privacy of their information. At 3:45 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair. ________________________ Rep.
