The House Committee on County Affairs 
         76th Legislature 
         May 24, 2000

         Tarrant Co. Commissioners Courtroom, Ft. Worth, Texas 
          
         Pursuant to a notice posted on April 14, 2000, the House  
         Committee on County Affairs met in a public hearing and was  
         called to order by the chair, Representative Ramsay, at 10:00  
         a.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Ramsay; Lewis, Glenn; Chisum; Krusee;  
                   Salinas; Swinford (6). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Brown, Betty; Farabee; Hilderbran (3). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         The Chair made opening remarks to explain the purpose of the  
         hearing.  The committee was to hear testimony on the following  
         interim charge:  "Examine areas in which the state might  
         beneficially devolve authority and programs to county  
         governments.  Assess the interest and ability of county  
         governments to accept more authority."  
          
         The Chair recognized Vice Chair Lewis to make opening remarks. 
          
         (Representative Brown, Betty now present.) 
          
         The Chair then recognized Tarrant County Judge Tom Vandergriff  
         for welcoming remarks. 
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         At 2:30 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
