         Lubbock, Texas 
          
         Pursuant to a notice posted on August 7, 2000, the House  
         Committee on Redistricting met in a public hearing and was  
         called to order by the chair, Representative Jones, Delwin, at  
         12:20 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Jones, Delwin; Bosse; Counts; Dunnam;  
                   Hunter; Marchant; Pitts; Wilson (8). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Glaze; Grusendorf; Moreno, Paul (3). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         Mayor Windy Sitton and Chancellor John T. Montford welcomed the  
         House and Senate Redistricting Committees to Lubbock and to the  
         Texas Tech campus. 
          
         Al Mirabal, U.S. Census Bureau, updated the Committee on the  
         2000 Census. 
          
         Public testimony was taken. 
          
         Marshall Turner, U.S. Census Bureau, answered questions  
         regarding the 2000 Census. 
          
         At 3:45 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was recessed subject to the call of the chair.
