         Pursuant to a notice posted on March 30, 2000, the House  
         Committee on Redistricting met in a public hearing and was  
         called to order by the chair, Representative Jones, Delwin, at  
         1:47 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Jones, Delwin; Glaze; Bosse; Dunnam;  
                   Grusendorf; Pitts (6). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Counts; Hunter; Marchant; Moreno,  
                   Paul; Wilson (5). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         Chairman Jones thanked the University of Texas at Arlington for  
         hosting the hearing. 
          
         Mayor Elzie Odom, Mayor of Arlington, welcomed the Committee. 
          
         The Chair recognized Representatives Krusee, Wise, Denny, Clark,  
         Truett, Goodman, and Brimer who were in attendance.

         Invited testimony was taken as follows: (see attached witness  
         list) 
          
         Alan Ware, Texas Legislative Council,  gave a presentation on  
         demographics. 
          
         Jeff Archer, Texas Legislative Council, gave a presentation on  
         the Voting Rights Act and related court cases. 
          
         (Representative Moreno, Paul now present.) 
          
         Public testimony was taken  (see attached witness lsit). 
          
         At 6:40 p.m., on the motion of Representative Glaze and without  
         objection, the meeting was recessed subject to the call of the  
         chair.
