         Pursuant to a notice posted on February 8, 2000, the House  
         Committee on Redistricting met in a public hearing and was  
         called to order by the chair, Representative Jones, Delwin, at  
         1:40 p.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows: 
          
         Present:  Representatives Jones, Delwin; Glaze; Bosse; Counts;  
                   Grusendorf; Hunter; Moreno, Paul (7). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Dunnam; Marchant; Pitts; Wilson (4). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         Testimony was taken from interested parties regarding the  
         outreach hearing process.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         (Representative Marchant now present.) 
          
         (Representative Wilson now present.) 
          
         (Representative Pitts now present.) 
          
         Gaye Hume and Tricia Tingle, Civil Rights Division, U. S.  
         Deparment of Justice presented information on preclearance and  
         answered members' questions. 
          
         At 4:45 p.m., on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was recessed subject to the call of the chair.
