No. 32 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas joins Texas 1-2 farmers and ranchers and the citizens of Lubbock, Texas, on March 1-3 10, 1999, in recognizing the distinguished agricultural career of 1-4 James Calvin Pigg; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Calvin has worked tirelessly in reporting on the 1-6 news of Texas agriculture on radio and television and in print for 1-7 more than 40 years; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Calvin has served continuously as editor of 1-9 Southwest Farm Press from its inception in 1974 until the present; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, A complete, bound set of Southwest Farm Press issues 1-12 dating from 1974 through 1998 is being presented to Texas Tech 1-13 University on this date; and 1-14 WHEREAS, James Calvin Pigg's agricultural journalism career 1-15 has exemplified the highest standards of integrity and fairness; 1-16 and 1-17 WHEREAS, During that career, Calvin has enhanced the 1-18 educational reputation of his alma mater, Texas A&M University, 1-19 through his high standards of agricultural journalism; and 1-20 WHEREAS, He has served the faculty, staff, and students at 1-21 Texas Tech University as a member of the Dean's Advisory Committee, 1-22 College of Agricultural Sciences; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Calvin's respect for the people who work the Texas 1-24 farmlands and care for the livestock is reflected in every word he 2-1 has written and will write; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The farmers and ranchers of the great state of Texas 2-3 have trusted Calvin to provide them with accurate and complete 2-4 information about their industry; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The scientists and extension agents who work 2-6 tirelessly to provide scientific help to Texas farmers and ranchers 2-7 have relied on Calvin Pigg and trusted him to convey accurate 2-8 information to Texas farmers and ranchers; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Calvin has served his profession as a member of the 2-10 Sigma Delta Chi Journalism Advisory Council at Texas A&M University 2-11 and the National Association of Radio and Television Farm Directors 2-12 and as president of the Texas Farm and Ranch Safety Council, the 2-13 Agricultural Workers of Texas, and the Dallas Agricultural Club; 2-14 and 2-15 WHEREAS, Calvin has been honored for distinguished service to 2-16 Texas agriculture by the Professional Agricultural Workers of Texas 2-17 and received the Gerald W. Thomas Outstanding Agriculturist Award 2-18 by the College of Agricultural Sciences, Texas Tech University, 2-19 Lubbock, Texas; and 2-20 WHEREAS, Calvin is a devoted husband and father; now, 2-21 therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the 76th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-23 hereby recognize James Calvin Pigg for his outstanding 2-24 contributions to the betterment of Texas agriculture; and, be it 2-25 further 2-26 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for 3-1 Calvin and his family as an expression of gratitude from the Texas 3-2 Legislature.
