MINUTES SENATE INTERIM COMMITTEE ON NATURAL RESOURCES Thursday, October 30, 1997 10:00 am International Cultural Center Texas Tech University Campus ***** Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Interim Committee on Natural Resources was held on Thursday, October 30, 1997 at the International Cultural Center, on the Texas Tech University Campus, at Lubbock, Texas. ***** MEMBERS PRESENT: MEMBERS ABSENT: Senator J.E. Brown None Senator Teel Bivins Senator Tom Haywood Senator Jon Lindsay Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr. Senator Steve Ogden Senator Carlos Truan ***** The Chair called the meeting to order at 10:00 am. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted. Senator Truan moved that the Minutes from the previous hearing be adopted. There being no objection, it was so ordered. Chairman Brown made opening remarks. Jeff Saitas, Deputy Director at TNRCC, made a presentation on the TNRCC's implementation of HB 3019. The following also spoke regarding the implementation of HB 3019: Tony Williams with the Texas Cotton Ginners Association Jon K. Fisher, Texas Chemical Council Mary Miksa, Texas Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce Ron Pedde, Acting Deputy Director - TNRCC, gave testimony regarding the siting of solid waste facilities. The following also testified regarding siting of solid waste facilities: Robert "Holly" Holder, Parkhill Smith and Cooper Kevin R. Kohn, City of Lubbock Ralph Rayburn - Texas Parks and Wildlife Department spoke on granting the Department general licensing authority Dr. Tim Turner, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association spoke on the American Heritage Rivers Initiative, as did Stephen Salmon with the Riverside Landowners Protection Coalition. There being no further business, at 12:25 pm Senator Ogden moved that the Committee be adjourned. Without objection, it was so ordered. ______________________ Senator J.E.
