         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule  
         11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Interim Committee on  
         Criminal Justice was held on Tuesday, September 16, 1997 in  
         the Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas.

         Senator John Whitmire                   None 
         Senator Jane Nelson 
         Senator Bill Ratliff 
         Senator Florence Shapiro

         The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:40 am.  There being  
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted.   
          
         The following members arrived after the roll was called:   
         none. 
          
         The Chair laid out the Committee rules, Senator Shapiro moved  
         that they be adopted. The clerk took a vote  the motion moved  
         with 5 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 0 absent.               
         Witnesses testifying and registering on the interim charge are  
         shown on the attached list.   
          
         There being no further business, at 6:11 pm Senator Whitmire  
         announced that the Committee stand recessed subject to the  
         call of the Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
