Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing
of the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice was held on
Saturday, May 17, 1997 at Senator Whitmire's desk on the
Senate Floor in Austin, Texas.

The Chair called the meeting to order at 11:31 am. There
being a quorum present, the following business was transacted.
The following members arrived after the roll was called:
none.
The following bills were previously left pending.
HB 237 by Goolsby/Ellis
Senator Shapiro moved that HB 237 be reported favorably to the
full Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be
printed. The motion failed by a vote of 3 ayes, 3 nays, 0
present not voting, and 1 absent.
HB 1070 by Van de Putte/Madla
Senator Patterson moved that HB 1070 as amended be reported
favorably to the full Senate with the recommendation that it
do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a vote of 6
ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.
Senator Patterson moved that the bill be recommended for
placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar, without
objection, it was so ordered.
HB 2257 by Luna/Brown
Senator Shapiro moved that HB 2257 be reported favorably to
the full Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be
printed. The motion carried with a vote of 6 ayes, 0 nays, 0
present not voting, and 1 absent.
Senator Shapiro moved that the bill be recommended for
placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar, without
objection, it was so ordered.
HB 3278 by Counts/Patterson
Senator Patterson moved that HB 3278 do not pass but that CSHB
3278 be reported back to the Senate with the recommendation
that it do pass and be printed. The motion carried with a
vote of 6 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present not voting, and 1 absent.
Senator Patterson moved that the bill be recommended for
placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar, without
objection, it was so ordered.
There being no further business, at 11:45 am Senator Whitmire
announced that the Committee stand recessed subject to the
call of the Chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
