         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 
         11.11, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Nominations 
         was held on Monday, March 17, 1997 in the Capitol Extension, 
         Room E1.016, at Austin, Texas.

         The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:05 pm.  There being 
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted.  
         
         The Chair laid out the names of the Texas State Pharmacy.
         
         Senator Carona introduced nominee, Oren M. Peacock, Jr.
         
         Senator Gallegos introduced nominee, Ira W. McConnell.
         
         The Chair introduced nominee, Roberta W. High.
         
         Senator Barrientos introduced nominee, Bill C. Pittman.
         
         Witnesses testifying and registering on the Texas State Board 
         of Pharmacy are shown on the attached list.
         
         
         Senator Barrientos moved to consider and report to the Senate 
         with the recommendation that the nominees for the Texas State 
         Board of Pharmacy be confirmed.
         
         Senator Gallegos seconded the motion.
         
         The Chair asked the Committee Members for unanimous consent to 
         show Senators Brown, Haywood and Nixon as voting aye.  There 
         being no objection, Senators Brown, Haywood and Nixon were 
 
         





         shown voting aye.
         
         The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present 
         not voting, and 0 absent.  
         
         The Chair laid out the names of the Texas Real Estate 
         Commission.
         
         Senator Shapiro introduced nominees, C. Michael Brodie and Kay 
         Sutton.
         
         The Chair introduced nominee, Maria Gonzalez-Avila.
         
         Senator Gallegos moved to consider and report to the Senate 
         with the recommendation that the nominees for the Texas Real 
         Estate Commission be confirmed.
         
         Senator Barrientos seconded the motion.
         
         The Chair asked the Committee Members for unanimous consent to 
         show Senator Brown as voting aye.  There being no objection, 
         Senator Brown was shown voting aye.
         
         The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present 
         not voting, and 0 absent.  
         
         The Chair laid out the name of the nominee to the Adjutant 
         General of Texas.
         
         Senator Luna introduced nominee, General Daniel James III.
         
         Witnesses testifying and registering on the Adjutant General 
         of Texas are shown on the attached list.
         
         The Chair moved that the nominee to the Adjutant General of 
         Texas and all other nominees not appearing be left pending 
         until Tuesday, March 18, 1997 at 2:00 in E1.016; by a 
         non-record vote, it was so ordered.  
         
         
         
         At 5:30 pm Senator Madla moved that the Committee stand 
         recessed subject to the call of the Chair.  Without objection, 
         it was so ordered.  
         
         The Senate Committee on Nominations reconvened on Tuesday, 
         March 18, 1997.
         
         The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm.
         
         Witnesses testifying and registering on the Adjutant General 
         of Texas resumed.
         
         The Chair moved that the nominee to the Adjutant General of 
         Texas and all other nominees not appearing be left pending 
 
         





         subject to the call of the Chair; by a non-record vote, it was 
         so ordered.  
         
         The Senate Committee on Nominations reconvened on Wednesday, 
         March 19, 1997 in the Senate Chamber.
         
         The Chair called the meeting to order at 2:28 pm.
         
         Senator Brown moved to consider and report to the Senate with 
         the recommendation that the nominee for the Adjutant General 
         of Texas be confirmed.
         
         Senator Barrientos seconded the motion.
         
         The Chair asked the Committee Members for unanimous consent to 
         show Senators Shapiro and Haywood as voting aye.  There being 
         no objection, Senators Shapiro and Haywood were shown voting 
         aye.
         
         The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present 
         not voting, and 0 absent.   
         
         At 2:29 pm, Senator Brown moved to consider and report to the 
         Senate with the recommendation that the nominees for the State 
         Board of Registration for Professional Engineers, Texas Growth 
         Fund Board of Trustees, State Board of Medical Examiners 
         District Review Committee-District I,   State Board of Medical 
         Examiners District Review Committee-District II, State Board 
         of Medical Examiners District Review Committee-District III, 
         State Board of Medical Examiners District Review 
         Committee-District IV, Exec. Council of Physical Therapy and 
         Occupational Therapy Examiners, Texas State Board of Physician 
         Assistant Examiners, Texas State Board of Podiatry Examiners, 
         Produce Recovery Fund Board, Real Estate Research Advisory 
         Committee, State Seed and Plant Board, and Board of Tax 
         Professional Examiners be confirmed.
         
         Senator Barrientos seconded the motion.
         The Chair asked the Committee Members for unanimous consent to 
         show Senators Shapiro and Haywood as voting aye.  There being 
         no objection, Senators Shapiro and Haywood were shown voting 
         aye.
         
         The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present 
         not voting, and 0 absent.  
         
         There being no further business, at 2:30 pm Senator Madla 
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of 
         the Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
