         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 
         11.11, a meeting of the Senate Committee on Nominations was 
         held on Wednesday, February 5, 1997 in Lt. Gov. Comm. Room, at 
         Austin, Texas.

         Senator Gonzalo Barrientos
         Senator J.E. Brown
         Senator Mario Gallegos, Jr.
         Senator Tom Haywood

         The Chair called the meeting to order at 9:00 am.  There being 
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted.  
         
         The Chairman laid out the names of the nominees for the 
         University of Texas System Board of Regents.
         
         Lieutenant Governor Bullock introduced nominee, Rita C. 
         Clements.
         
         Senator Shapiro introduced nominee, Rita C. Clements.
         
         Senator Ratliff introduced nominee, A. W. Riter, Jr.
         
         Senator Whitmire introduced nominee, Patrick C. Oxford.
         
         Senator Zaffirini introduced nominee, A. R. Sanchez.
         
         At 9:50 am, Senator Brown moved to consider and report to the 
         Senate with the recommendation that the nominees of the 
         University of Texas System Board of Regents be confirmed.
         
         Senator Gallegos seconded the motion.
         
         The motion carried with a vote of 7 ayes, 0 nays, 0 present 
         not voting, and 0 absent.  
         There being no further business, at 9:52 am  Senator Madla 
 
         





         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of 
         the Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
