         Pursuant to suspension of Senate Rule 11.11, a public hearing  
         of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was held on Monday,  
         April 21, 1997 in the Senate Chamber at Austin, Texas.

         MEMBERS PRESENT:                        MEMBERS ABSENT: 
         Senator Steve Ogden                      
         Senator David Cain                       
         Senator Gregory Luna

         Senator Ogden, the Acting Chair, called the meeting to order  
         at 12:53 pm.  The following business was transacted.  
           
         The following members arrived after the roll was called:   
         none. 
          
         The Chair laid out SB 889 and recognized Senator Cain, in the  
         absence of the author, to explain the bill. 
            
         Senator Ogden moved that SB 889 be reported favorably to the  
         full Committee with the recommendation that it do pass and be  
         printed.  The motion carried with a vote of 2 ayes, 1 nay, 0  
         present not voting, and 0 absent.   
          
         Senator Ogden moved adoption of the subcommittee report; there  
         being no objection it was so moved. 
          
         There being no further business, at 12:55 pm Senator Ogden  
         moved that the Committee be adjourned. Without objection, it  
         was so ordered.
