         Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 
         11.11, a meeting of the Senate Committee on Jurisprudence was 
         held on Wednesday, January 22, 1997 in Capitol Extension 
         E1.012 at Austin, Texas.

         Senator David Cain
         Senator Robert Duncan
         Senator Gregory Luna

         The Chair called the meeting to order at 1:32 pm.  There being 
         a quorum present, the following business was transacted.  
         
         The following members arrived after the roll was called:  
         none.
         
         Senator Ellis welcomed the Committee members and introduced 
         the Committee staff.
         
         The Chair laid out the proposed Committee Rules for the 75th 
         Legislative Session.  Senator Harris moved to strike section 
         20 from the proposed rules.  Senator Luna seconded the motion. 
         There being no objection the motion prevailed.
         
         Senator Harris moved adoption of the Committee Rules. Senator 
         Cain seconded the motion. The motion prevailed by a voice 
         vote.  
         
         There being no further business, at 1:40 pm Senator Ellis 
         moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of 
         the Chair, there being no objection the motion prevailed.
