         Pursuant to a notice posted on June 3, 1998, the House  
         Committee on Public Safety, Subcommittee on Commissioning of  
         Peace Officers met in a public hearing and was called to order  
         by the Chair, Representative Driver, at 9:45 a.m. 
          
         The roll was answered as follows:   
          
         Present:  Representatives Driver; Keel, Terry; Keffer (3). 
          
         Absent:   Representative McClendon (1). 
          
         A quorum was present. 
          
         The chair explained the purpose and goals of the subcommittee.   
         Interim Charge #1:  Examine the laws and procedures under  
         which peace officers are commissioned.  Assess whether changes  
         would improve the efficiency and consistency of the  
         commissioning and enforcement efforts. 
          
         Testimony was taken.  (See attached witness list.) 
          
         At 10:30 a.m., on the motion of the chair and without  
         objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of  
         the chair.
