            Pursuant to a notice posted on March 6, 1997, the House  
            Committee on Public Health met in a public hearing and was  
            called to order by the Chair, Representative Hugo Berlanga,  
            at 2:31 pm. 
             
            The roll was answered as follows:   
             
            Present:  Representatives Berlanga; Hirschi; Coleman;  
                      Delisi; Glaze; Maxey (6). 
             
            Absent:   Representatives Davila; Janek; Rodriguez (3). 
             
            A quorum was present.

            The chair laid out HB 1162.   
             
            The chair recognized Representative Driver to explain the  
            measure.  Representative Driver requested that the  
            committee consider the companion bill, SB 422 in lieu of HB  
            1162.

            Representative Berlanga offered an amendment to the  
            measure.   
            The amendment was adopted without objection.
