         Pursuant to a notice posted on March 13, 1997, the House 
         Committee on Public Education, Subcommittee on Safe Schools 
         met in a joint public hearing with the House Committee on 
         Juvenile Justice and Family Issues and the House 
         Appropriations, Subcommittee on Education.  The meeting was 
         called to order by the Chair, Representative Harold Dutton at 
         5:40 pm.
         
         The roll was answered as follows:  
         
         Present:  Representatives Dutton; Culberson; Price (3).
         
         Absent:   Representatives Rhodes; Uher (2).
         
         
         (Representatives Rhodes and Uher now present.)  
         
         Testimony was taken.

         CHAPTER 37, EDUCATION CODE
         
         The Chair laid out HB 1090.
         
         Representative Staples offered a complete committee 
         substitute.
         
         The chair recognized Representative Goodman to explain the 
         measure.
         
         Testimony was taken.  
         
         The bill was left pending in the Juvenile Justice committee 
         without objection. 
         
         
         
         
         
         
         At 11:15 pm, on the motion of the chair and without objection,
