         Pursuant to a notice posted on January 24, 1997, the House 
         Committee on Financial Institutions met in a formal meeting and 
         was called to order by the Chair, Representative Kenny Marchant 
         at 10:47 a.m.
         
         The roll was answered as follows:  
         
         Present:  Representatives Marchant; Gutierrez; Ehrhardt; Elkins; 
                   Grusendorf; Patterson, L.P. "Pete"; Smith; Solomons 
                   (8).
         
         Absent:   Representative Giddings (1).
         
         A quorum was present.
         
         (Representative Giddings now present.)  
         
         The Chairman discussed several organizational details with 
         Committee members. 
         
         On the motion of the chair and without objection, the meeting 
         was adjourned subject to the call of the chair at 11:00 a.m.
