         Pursuant to a posting on May 2, 1997, then later revised on  
         May 7th, 1997 and pursuant to the house granting permission  
         for the House Committee on Redistricting to meet while the  
         house is in session on May 7, 1997, the Committee met in a  
         public hearing.  The meeting was called to order by the Chair,  
         Representative Delwin Jones at 7:17 pm.  
          
         The roll was answered as follows:   
          
         Present:  Representatives Jones, Delwin; Giddings; Grusendorf;  
                   Hightower; Kubiak; Marchant; Moreno; Price; Wilson  
                   (9). 
          
         Absent:   Representatives Glaze; Hunter (2).

         HB 2254 
          
         The chair laid out HB 2254.  The chair explained the measure.

         Representative Grusendorf moved that HB 2254 be reported  
         favorably to the full house with the recommendation that it do  
         pass and be printed and be sent to the Committee on Local and  
         Consent Calendars.   
          
         Motion withdrawn.

         The chair laid out HB 772.   
          
         Representative Jones, Delwin offered a complete committee  
         substitute.

         Representative Grusendorf offered an amendment to the  
         committee substitute.   
          
         The chair recognized Representative Grusendorf to explain the  
         amendment.   
          
         Representative Grusendorf moved to adopt the amendment. 
  
         The motion was withdrawn.

         Representative Grusendorf  moved to adopt the amendment.

         The chair moved to enter into record written testimony by Gary  
         Thurman of Midland regarding congressional redistricting.  The  
         testimony was entered into the record without objection. 
               
         At 8:32 pm, on the motion of the chair and without objection,  
         the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
