        Pursuant to a notice posted January 12, 1998, the House Committee on  
        Appropriations, Subcommittee on Job Classification met in a public  
        hearing and was called to order by the Chair, Representative  
        Greenberg at 2:15 pm. 
         
        The roll was answered as follows:   
         
        Present:   Representatives Greenberg; Hochberg; Kubiak; West, George  
                   "Buddy" (4). 
         
        Absent:     Haggerty; Hernandez; Moreno; Price  (4). 
                    
        A quorum was present.

        Testimony was taken, see attached witness list.   
         
        Testimony was taken from State Auditors Office  testified on the  
        overall schedule and progress of the job classification program,  
        salary parity, the general manager/director series, information  
        technology staff transfers, the 1-11 management staff ratios and an  
        FTE breakdown by agency. 
         
        Testimony was taken on the 1.7 percent salary cap and the 1-11 staff  
        to management ratio. 
         
        Mike Mericle of the Texas Rehabilitation Commission gave  an update  
        on  the Human Resources Task Force. 
         
        Large and small agencies gave testimony on 1-11, 1.7 percent salary  
        cap, bonuses and merits, schedule classification plan.   
         
        At 3:20 pm, on the motion of the chair and without objection, the  
        meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
