                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, April 27, 1995, marks the 37th birthday of an
    1-2  esteemed member of the Texas House of Representatives, the
    1-3  Honorable Robert Puente, and it gives the members of this chamber
    1-4  great pleasure to recognize him on this truly auspicious occasion;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Representative Puente knew he was destined to play a
    1-7  leading role in state politics, even back in those days when he was
    1-8  still a young man; following his studies in political science at
    1-9  St. Mary's University in San Antonio, he was graduated from The
   1-10  University of Texas Law School in 1982 and soon thereafter embarked
   1-11  on a successful career as a practicing attorney, lending credence
   1-12  to the theory that practice makes perfect; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Since taking office as a member of this chamber in
   1-14  1990, this exceptional legislator has served the people of Texas
   1-15  with integrity and vision; as the representative of District 119,
   1-16  he has worked tirelessly on behalf of his constituents, never
   1-17  failing to provide them with the excellent service and support they
   1-18  deserve; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Affectionately known as the "juvenile delinquent" of
   1-20  the Juvenile Justice and Famiy Issues Committee, he has also made a
   1-21  name for himself among the Bexar County delegation, Leo Alvarado,
   1-22  Karyne Jones Conley, Frank Corte, Christine Hernandez, John
   1-23  Longoria, Ciro Rodriguez, Sylvia Romo, John Shields, Bill Siebert,
    2-1  and Leticia Van de Putte, who have had to send him to "time out" on
    2-2  a number of occasions; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, A past president of the Mexican-American Bar
    2-4  Association of San Antonio, Mr. Puente is far from a "has been" and
    2-5  is active in the legal community as a member of numerous local bar
    2-6  associations and as a board member of the Bexar County Mediation
    2-7  Center; his determination to make Texas a better place in which to
    2-8  live and raise a family is also evident in the long hours he
    2-9  devotes to the advisory board of the Victoria Child Care Center, as
   2-10  well as many other community groups throughout Bexar County; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Despite his cherubic countenance, Robert Puente is,
   2-12  in fact, a determined activist who has made many significant
   2-13  contributions to the work of this chamber throughout his fine
   2-14  tenure in office, and as he celebrates his birthday on this day, it
   2-15  is indeed appropriate for his fellow colleagues to take a brief
   2-16  moment to honor him for his exemplary service; now, therefore, be
   2-17  it
   2-18        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas
   2-19  Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Robert Puente on the
   2-20  occasion of his 37th birthday and extend to him warmest best wishes
   2-21  for many more years of continued success and happiness; and, be it
   2-22  further
   2-23        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-24  prepared for Representative Puente as an expression of highest
   2-25  regard from his many friends in the Texas House of Representatives.
