H.R. No. 540 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Our esteemed colleague, the Honorable Craig Eiland, 1-2 will celebrate his birthday on April 4, 1995, and it gives the 1-3 members of this chamber great pleasure to recognize him on this 1-4 auspicious occasion; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Stanton, Representative Eiland was an 1-6 outstanding athlete in high school and college, achieving high 1-7 honors in football, basketball, and track; he lettered in football 1-8 at Baylor University before graduating with a bachelor of business 1-9 administration degree in 1984, and he returned to that school to 1-10 earn a doctor of jurisprudence degree in 1987; and 1-11 WHEREAS, After completing law school, he traveled to 1-12 Australia and spent six months working on a ranch in the outback; 1-13 having grown homesick for Texas, he returned to the state in 1988 1-14 and began his legal career; he opened his own law practice in 1992, 1-15 with offices in Houston and Galveston; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Since winning election to the house in 1994, this 1-17 fine gentleman has contributed greatly to the legislative process 1-18 by sharing his expertise and insight to the benefit of his 1-19 colleagues on the Business and Industry Committee and the State, 1-20 Federal, and International Relations Committee; and 1-21 WHEREAS, His current position as a state representative 1-22 fulfills a prediction made many years ago by his third grade 1-23 teacher, who firmly believed that her pupil's ability to convince 1-24 his fellow classmates to do what he wanted would one day lead to a 2-1 successful career as either a preacher or a politician; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Representative Eiland's grandmother, Mrs. Hope 2-3 Hazelwood, also foresaw great political ability in her grandson 2-4 when she noted his innate talent for arguing; he undoubtedly honed 2-5 this talent in his dealings with his siblings, Gordon Eiland and 2-6 Paiga Lou Eiland Marsh, much to the dismay of the trio's parents, 2-7 Paige and Elaine Eiland; and 2-8 WHEREAS, A member of First Baptist Church in Galveston, this 2-9 distinguished legislator also is the proud uncle of five nieces and 2-10 nephews, Austin and Koby Marsh and Jessica, Clifton, and Clayton 2-11 Eiland; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Representative Eiland has already made numerous 2-13 contributions to the work of this chamber, and many of his 2-14 colleagues are predicting a bright and successful future for this 2-15 new member of the Galveston delegation; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Craig Eiland on the 2-18 occasion of his 33rd birthday and extend to him warmest best wishes 2-19 for many more years of success and happiness; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-21 prepared for Representative Eiland as an expression of high regard 2-22 by his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives. 2-23 by his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives. 2-24 Janek 2-25 H.R.
