    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Texas are
    1-3  pleased to pause in their deliberations to honor one of their
    1-4  hard-working colleagues, Senator Rodney Ellis, as he celebrates his
    1-5  birthday on April 7, 1993; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Born on April 7, 1954, Senator Ellis received his
    1-7  bachelor of arts degree from Texas Southern University, his master's
    1-8  degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, and his
    1-9  law degree from The University of Texas School of Law; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, From an early age his talents for leading others
   1-11  were evident; he was chosen to participate in the American
   1-12  Leadership Forum which is a national enterprise dedicated to
   1-13  developing the leadership skills of men and women who actively
   1-14  participate in public service in their communities; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Assuming office in 1990, Senator Ellis brought to
   1-16  his office a wealth of experience in government; he served his
   1-17  hometown of Houston as a city councilman for six years before he
   1-18  became a state senator; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The recipient of many awards and honors,
   1-20  Senator Ellis received the Sierra Club's Legislative Service Award
   1-21  for Clean Air; was named a "Superhero of the 72nd Legislature" by a
   1-22  coalition which included civil rights, environmental, and consumer
   1-23  advocacy groups and was the recipient of a 1992 Henry Toll
    2-1  Fellowship, awarded to 32 of the most promising young politicians
    2-2  around the country; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, An outstanding public official, Senator Ellis has
    2-4  toiled unceasingly to ensure the continued growth and prosperity of
    2-5  his city and state; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, The people of Texas and the citizens of the
    2-7  13th Senatorial District are truly fortunate to have such an able
    2-8  and dedicated public servant as their spokesman; now, therefore,
    2-9  be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-11  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere birthday greetings with
   2-12  many happy returns to Senator Rodney Ellis; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-14  as an expression of the esteem and respect of his colleagues in the
   2-15  Texas Senate.
