H.R. No. 677 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Though none of us is getting any younger, today, May 1-2 6, 1993, the Honorable Ken Yarbrough will officially get one day 1-3 older as he celebrates the 56th anniversary of his birth, though 1-4 the jury is still out as to whether he is any wiser; and 1-5 WHEREAS, This fine gentleman is currently serving his second 1-6 term as a member of this august body, which may account for his 1-7 occasional sophomoric behavior; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born in Aransas Pass and, in 1-9 his youth, served as president of his class at Rockdale High 1-10 School; Mr. Yarbrough also distinguished himself early on as a 1-11 delegate to Boys State, where he became acquainted with the center 1-12 of state government for the first time, never dreaming that he 1-13 would one day return to the Capitol having achieved the pinnacle of 1-14 success, a designated parking space; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The son of a plumber, he was born with a full set of 1-16 pipes, which he exercises to the benefit of his legislative 1-17 colleagues as vice-chairman of the Committee on Economic 1-18 Development and as a contributing member of the Licensing and 1-19 Administrative Procedures Committee; and 1-20 WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Mr. Yarbrough has put 1-21 himself at the disposal of Plumbers Local 68 in Houston, though he 1-22 also has been known to plunge himself into the activities of the 1-23 Harris County AFL-CIO, the Greater Heights Area Chamber of 1-24 Commerce, and the Harris County and Texas Democratic Party; and 2-1 WHEREAS, A faithful worshiper at St. Rose of Lima Catholic 2-2 Church, he is still a highly regarded member of the congregation, 2-3 though a "No Filibustering" sign has had to be posted in the 2-4 confessional; and 2-5 WHEREAS, In addition to his many interests, Mr. Yarbrough's 2-6 next of "Ken" includes four terrific kids, Bubba, Sissy, Susie, and 2-7 Kendra, and his designer genes have since been passed along to 2-8 another generation of little ones, Clint, Bryce, and Cody; and 2-9 WHEREAS, It gives the members of this chamber great pleasure 2-10 to saddle our rugged and independent "Yarbrough Man" with this 2-11 acknowledgement on this significant occasion and spur him on to 2-12 even greater achievements in the future; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby congratulate and extend warmest best wishes to 2-15 the Honorable Ken Yarbrough for a very happy birthday; and, be it 2-16 further 2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-18 prepared for Mr. Yarbrough as an expression of high regard by his 2-19 colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives. 2-20 Gallegos 2-21 Schechter 2-22 Bailey 2-23 Turner of Harris 2-24 Eckels 2-25 A.
